Progress

October 28, 2007 xtacocorex 1 comment

So I’ve made some progress with my Airfoil Generator; I’ve written a basic Matrix class in Python so I don’t have to have users download an external library. It may not be fast, but it works. I just have to implement equation solvers in the file now, most likely trying to port one of my old professor’s solver to Python since it’s fast.

All I need to do now is get my 2D source panel method quickly working in Python to test some stuff with graphs behind the airfoil showing pressure data.

Yesterday was productive, David and I helped a co-worker and his fiance’ move into their new house. 7 hours of hard labor was well rewarded, but that’s not the main reason for doing it. I did miss a free dinner with Erica’s grandparents, but Kraft macaroni and cheese was good enough for dinner.

Evidently the world is supposed to end sometime in 2012 according to Nostradamus. There may be a life threatening event in 2012, but the Earth won’t be destroyed. The sun will destroy the Earth billions of years from now.

Anyway, work tomorrow where I will think of something that bugs me to blog about.

Who thought applications could be worthless

I’m sure there are more people out there like me that think most of the Facebook third party applications are worthless and make your profile look like some monkey threw paint on a piece of paper and a zoologist called it art.

Granted, I use a few applications: Pandora’s, LastFM, Del.icio.us, Dogbook (for Bailey), and the Zombie one (no idea why since I lost a battle and felt dumb afterwards). These are useful apps in defining who I am, but why does one need an app to show a random picture of a tennis player I don’t know or offer someone a fake drink?

Seriously, why would anyone need an app called “How Sexy is Your Name Calculator”? It turns out that I have one friend who actually uses that application and I’m sad to say that it’s my cousin. Disclaimer: I did find this browsing the application list and not looking at her profile.

The most popular application is “Top Friends”, where you can rate your friends in order of how much you like them, a source of huge controversy with some people.

I just learned, in my quick research, that there are now applications for your computer and not just the profile. If I so choose, I could get Growl notifications for when my friends update their profiles. Growl is a cool program for my Mac, but I don’t need to know when people update their profiles while I’m working on a code or just chilling on the net.

Enough ranting for today.

A most unnattainable goal…

Unless I get a large sum of money that will not only pay my debts, but put me into the running for the:

Google Lunar X-Prize

Pretty much the coolest contest ever.

I’m working on my plan of action and the requirements of the launch vehicle and rover. There won’t be any inflatable ball landings on my vehicle.

Time to refresh up on my orbital trajectories.
